It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of EL Bowden, Jr., who departed from this world on October 7, 2023 at the age of 69. He left us peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. In celebrating the life of EL, we pay tribute to a true enterprising spirit, an East End original, who touched the lives of many. With a heavy heart, we gather to remember and honor the legacy of a beloved father, mentor, and visionary. EL was not just a name; it was an embodiment of determination, innovation, and love.

EL went to Varina High School and earned a degree from The School of Hard Knocks. He was a jack of all trades, a self-made entrepreneur who started many successful business ventures, acquired, and developed multiple real estate properties. He instilled values of hard work, perseverance, and love in his children, shaping them into the remarkable individuals they are today.

He enjoyed boating, fishing, driving fast cars, and having long conversations with loved ones and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Williams Bowden and father, Edward Lanier Bowden, Sr. He is survived by his former wife, Matilda Bowden Hill; children, Jonathan Henry Bowden, Elizabeth Christine Bowden and Edward Lanier “Eddie” Bowden, III; grandchildren, Camila Rose Bowden and Sofia Frances Bowden; brother, William Vaughan Bowden; wife, Terry Helen Bowden; niece, Virginia Hope “Jenny” Bowden; nephew, William Vaughan “Bubba” Bowden II.

The family will receive friends, Wednesday, October 11 from 3pm to 4pm, followed by a Celebration of EL's life will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA. 23231
