Dr. Alfrieda Daly was born to Reverend Samuel Franklin and Mrs. Johnsie Pamela Daly on September 12th, 1930 in Catawba County, North Carolina. Her sunset was on April 18th, 2021 in Henrico, Virginia.

At a very early age, Alfrieda was intellectually gifted with an expansive vocabulary. Her quest for knowledge was so profound that her father had her learn Latin. Alfrieda progressed through her studies quickly graduating from Palmer Memorial Institution in North Carolina. She then continued her educational journey by acquiring a Bachelor’s degree at Shaw University, as did both of her parents. Finally, she acquired a doctorate degree in Social Work and Organizational Psychology from the University of Michigan.

During her lifelong journey, Alfrieda worked as a Social Worker and Professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey; where she taught courses in social policy, management, and human behavior in the social environment. Eventually, she went on to author ‘Workplace Diversity’ in 1998. Alfrieda has always been a true advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion way before it was a catchy slogan or current trend within organizations. She was a modern pioneer within the field.

Alfrieda followed no trends but rather owned and celebrated her uniqueness. Born as a Pastor’s Kid, she knew The Lord early and knew how much He loved her. Although she attended several ministries over the years it is her most recent church where she cherished her Pastor and the congregation. In conjunction with her development of her relationship with Jesus, Alfrieda enjoyed connecting with and meeting new people as well as traveling, especially to Ann Arbor, MI, NYC, and NJ. She loved anything chocolate, enjoying global cuisine, actively engaging in progressive politics, watching commentary from Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid, and flirting with any and every tall man that entered the room. And if he so happened to be a firefighter then that was a definite plus.

Although Alfrieda never married or had children, she was a mother to many. She loved, nurtured, guided, mentored, supported, and disciplined many of us and she will be greatly missed. Dr. Alfrieda Daly has left a footprint on this earth and her fingerprint on our lives. She will be missed by a host of cousins and friends whom she considered to be her family.

Alfrieda was preceded by both her parents and younger brother, Algernon Daly whom she loved tremendously. We love you! It’s your time to rest. Service will be at a later date.
