DAVIS, Dorothy Sutton, died on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the Cedarfield Retirement Community after a long period of sickness. She was born on September 28, 1928, and had recently celebrated her 94th birthday. She was a favorite of both the staff and the residents with her quick mind, vitality and humor. She loved to sing the old songs, enjoyed working puzzles and playing table games.

She was the youngest of two daughters to Clarence Griffen Sutton and Bessie Linnie "Bea" Sutton. The other being her sister, Alice Sutton Langhorne, who predeceased her. She grew up in the shadow of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Richmond, and supported it throughout her life.

After attending high school in Richmond, she worked for the C&P Telephone Company and over the years advanced to the position as Administrative Assistant to one of its top executives.

She met Creed Davis and they married not long after. He was a Methodist and moved his membership to Reveille United Methodist Church, just blocks away from their home on Windsor Avenue. She now had a stepson, Bud, and stepdaughter, Joan. Across the years, they became a new family.

She is survived by her two children, Creed "Bud" Davis Jr. and his wife, Linda, Joan Lachowski and her husband, John; five grandchildren, Shelby Davis Ramos (Gonzalo), Brett Davis, Kenneth Lachowski (Debbie), W. C. Lachowski and Steven Ryan Lachowski; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Nash, Lia and Josh; her sister's children, Carolyn Pittman, Bruce Langhorne (Helen), Janet Murphy (Michael); and many great-nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside service led by her son, Rev. Dr. Creed "Bud" Davis, in Riverview Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 24. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Dorothy Davis, please do so to your favorite charity.
