Daniel “Danny” Winn Boatwright, 75, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on February 24, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Drewry Walton and Audrey Winn Boatwright; and his sister, Audrey “Jerry” Nash. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Boatwright; sister, Dale Griggs (Tommy); brother in-law, Robert Nash; children, Troy Boatwright (Christy), John Boatwright (Stacy), Danielle Schrader (Steve); and grandchildren, Caroline Boatwright, Coleman and Allie Boatwright, and Meghan and Emma Schrader.

Danny was born on May 30, 1946 in Henrico, Virginia. He was a graduate of Douglas Freeman High School. Danny devoted 34 years by serving his community with the Henrico Division of Fire, rising to the rank of Battalion Chief. During his career Danny was one of the original members of the Hazardous Incident Team, and an active member of the Henrico Professional Firefighters Association, serving as Vice President and President for 8 years. He helped with the planning and construction of Station 17 (River Road), where he served as the station’s first Captain. For his dedication to the fire service, Danny was awarded the Fire Chiefs Medal in 2000.

After his retirement, Danny continued to be active in the fire service. He served on the Goochland Volunteer Fire Rescue Association Board of Directors for nine years. He was on the book committee that published, A History of the Henrico County Division of Fire. He and Brenda enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states. He found great joy in spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren at his home, Littleberry, in Goochland County.

Visitation will be held Monday March 7, 2022, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, 11220 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at Mount Vernon on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 11 a.m.
