Carol Mitchell Winston, retired assistant at Branch’s Baptist Church, and loving wife and mother, was welcomed Home by God Wednesday, February 16, 2022. She was 84 years of age. Born from the love of Burle Wesley Mitchell and Bessie Lewis Mitchell, Mrs. Winston lived nearly her entire life in Richmond, Virginia, and she will always be remembered for her great love of God, family and friends. She graduated from Highland Springs High School in Richmond, Virginia in 1955, and joined a local law firm. In 1959, she married James Lewis Winston, and they celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage and raised two wonderful daughters together before his passing in 2019. During her lifetime, she was a devoted Baptist, and a long-time member of Branch’s Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, where she also served as the church’s assistant for nearly 30 years. She and her husband later transferred their membership to Derbyshire Baptist Church, when they moved to the west end of Richmond in 2006. Over the years, she was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, an international organization that focuses on fund raising efforts for health and education related causes. In addition, she was a member of the Garland Heights Garden Club, and she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad, playing bridge and spending time with her loving family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Winston Camden (Wayne) and Leigh Anne Winston Baggs (David); and her many nephews and nieces, and their families. She joins her parents and her loving husband James Lewis Winston in heaven. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home,11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA 23060. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Simms Center within Lakewood Manor located at 1900 Lauderdale Drive, Henrico, VA 23238. The family encourages memorial donations to the Lakewood Benevolent Fund, care of Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation, 3961 Stillman Parkway, Glen Allen, VA 23060. Their mission is to help seniors by providing them with caring communities that provide fellowship and continuing medical care throughout their retirement years.
