Obituary - Brenda Layne Mills

Mills, Brenda Layne, 65, of Henrico passed away August 28, 2023 after a 12-year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Herbert Jackson Layne. She is survived by her husband, Joe Mills, Sr.; daughter, Karen Havelka (Joey); son, Joe Mills, Jr. (Chi); six grandchildren, Naomie, Norah, Franklin, Jackson, Jacob, and Noelle, whom she adored dearly; sisters, Gail Rivers, Lee Slater (Charlie), Willie Saunders (Keith); brother, Herbie Layne (Kristina) and many nieces and nephews. Brenda was born in Henrico, VA on February 14, 1958. She retired as a tractor trailer driver and spent several years as a school bus driver for Henrico County. Brenda was an enthusiastic animal lover and dedicated her spare time to finding, fostering, and rehoming rescue dogs.

The family will receive friends at Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W Broad St, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th, with a service at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Road on Friday September 8th at 12 p.m., reception to follow. Interment private.
