Bernard Warren Ferguson, Jr., 93, of Varina, Va., went to be with our Lord and Savior on July 5, 2024 surrounded by family.

Bernard was born July 21, 1930 in Henrico, Va. He grew up in Richmond, Va. and eventually relocated to the Varina area. Bernard graduated from Varina H.S. and joined the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1948-1952), past commander of American Legion Post 233, and longtime member of Laurel Hill church. Bernard returned to Varina and worked with his father to develop the Marion Hill neighborhood. He married the love of his life, Erma, and was a selflessly devoted husband for 62 years, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Ferguson (Foster); father, Bernard Warren Ferguson, Sr.; mother, Catherine Turner Ferguson; and daughter-in-law, Jody Ferguson (Mark).

He is survived by his three children, Bernard “Bernie” Warren Ferguson, III (Shannon), Patti Kaloski (George), Mark Ernest Ferguson; four grandchildren, Erin Stargell (Mark), Brant Ferguson, Lauren Woods (Jonathan), Ross Ferguson; a step-granddaughter, Stephanie Benson; and five great grandchildren.

Bernard loved his family and friends, enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, going to the beach, camping, fishing, and playing a little golf later in life.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12 at 12 noon. Interment will follow in Washington Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Henrico County Rescue Squad, Bon Secours Home Health, Bon Secours Hospice, Laurel Hill Global Methodist Church, or to the charity of your choice.
