Anne, the middle of three daughters to the late Bill and Gladys Baldwin and preceded in death by her sisters Jeanne Snellinger and Shirley Ryan, was called on high by her Lord and Savior on January 24, 2022. Anne has been reunited with her husband of 61 years, Ernest “Andy” Anderson.

Born September 7, 1930, Anne fondly remembered growing up in both the Church Hill and Highland Park neighborhoods in Richmond. As a graduate of John Marshall High School class of 1948, some of her fondest memories were of calling out to friends across the tunnel that joined the John Marshall building to the Wythe building under Marshall Street and the annual Cadet Hop.

After high school, Anne met Andy, a member of the U.S. Navy. They were married in 1950, and after a few years living in Norfolk, settled down to raise their family in Henrico. They had four children: Darrell (Pattie), Sharon Tuck (Kenny), Scott (Misty), and Craig (Inga), as well as someone she thought of as a daughter, Sheila Anderson.
When her children were young, Anne was an active member in the PTA and frequently hosted neighborhood kids in her backyard for various ball games. Anne was also extremely close with extended family including a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, as well as cousins who were all known to gather nearly every Friday when the kids were young at her parent’s home.

Anne enjoyed being a stay-at-home mother until her youngest was twelve years old when she returned to work at Richfood, where she served faithfully for seventeen years. While raising her family and working, Anne also served her church, originally as a member of Lakeside Christian Church, and later as a member of Trinity Christian Church.
Anne was known for being a devoted Black Friday shopper, starting when the stores open and shopping all night long. Anne and Andy were also avid travelers, visiting all 50 states. Anne checked off the last item on her bucket list when she visited Key West at the age of 85 to ensure she had been to all four corners of the contiguous U.S.

Anne was very proud of being “Grums” to six grandchildren, Kelli Tuck, Lindsay Tuck, Kevin Anderson, Travis Anderson (Christine), Krystin Buchanan (Kenneth), and Craig Anderson,II. Originally christened “Gramumma” by her eldest grandchild, it was affectionately shortened to “Grums” as the grandchildren grew older. She became widely known as “Grums” and while many wanted to claim her as their own, the Townsend family, were among the lucky few she thought of as surrogate grandchildren.

While Anne was proud to be a grandmother, she was thrilled to become Great Grums to Kellan and Mackley Buchanan and James, John, Luke, and Rachel Anderson. Shortly after her great grand-babies were born, Grums decided to become a Facebook guru as she refused to be the last one to see their most recent pictures and videos. Grums quickly gained her own following on social media and was always a good sport with posting funny pictures or videos herself.

Anne’s legacy as a daughter, sister, mother, and Grums is a testament to the life that she lived surrounded by love.
Visitation will be at Bliley’s on Staples Mill on Thursday, February 3rd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Trinity Christian Church (8469 Atlee Rd, Mechanicsville, VA) on Friday, February 4th at 11am with burial to follow.
