Obituary - Arthur Mason Lauterbach Jr.

Arthur “Buddy” Mason Lauterbach, Jr., 80, of Sandston, Va., went home to be with the Lord January 29, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur M. Lauterbach Sr. and Lois V. Lauterbach; sister, Patricia L. Avery; and his devoted canine companion, Charlie. Art is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Irene O. Lauterbach; daughter, Suzane M. Lauterbach (Thanasi); granddaughter, Caitlyn M. Gayle (Tiffany); grandson, James M. Kirby; nephew, Brian K. Adams (Monica); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dustin, Malakai and Emma Grace; and his new canine companion, Rambo.

Art graduated from Highland Springs High School, class of 1959. He then received an associate’s degree from Chowan Junior College in North Carolina, followed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from RPI (VCU). Upon graduation from RPI, he worked as a chemist for the Virginia Department of Agriculture, then moved to the Consolidated Labs Forensic Science Division, instructing law enforcement officers in Virginia on the use of the breathalyzer. Art served in the Air Force Reserve, 192nd Supply Squadron based at Byrd Field. In October of 1970, he opened Superior Tax Service, Inc. in Highland Springs and served generations of clients with his tax preparation skills.

Art was Past Master of Babcock Masonic Lodge #322 in Highland Springs and a member of the ACCA Shrine. He was a past president of the ACCA Shrine Car Club. Art had a passion for the outdoors, loved fishing and hunting and was a lifetime member of Grange Hall Hunt Club in Skinquarter, Va. He was a member of Big Coppitt First Baptist Church in Big Coppitt Key, Fla.
