Anne Bowry Hailey, 87, of Henrico, Va, died peacefully at home on January 30. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Tucker” Karl Hailey, Sr., and her daughter-in-law, Kathy Hailey.

Anne worked for many years in bookkeeping for VEPCO, now known as Dominion Energy. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Richmond, Va. and was a longtime member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Highland Springs, Va.

Anne’s life always centered around family. Growing up she was one of eight children. Throughout her life her siblings were her best friends. As an adult, many of her siblings’ children – “the cousins”— were playmates as well as classmates at St. Patrick’s.

Anne and Tucker went on to have a large family of their own, raising four children and two nieces and welcoming spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren into the fold. Through it all, Anne was the glue that held her large family together. Nothing gave her more joy. Later in life, she hosted weekly family dinners that came to be known as “Nannie Night.” While she herself enjoyed seeing everyone who could make it to Nannie Night, that wasn’t the main purpose of this weekly ritual. The main purpose, according to Anne, was so that her children and grandchildren could see each other. She wanted to ensure that those family ties would always be strong.

Some of Anne’s favorite things were walking on the beach, quilting, and Christmas. She was a little out-of-control when it came to giving Christmas gifts, but it always made for a fun Christmas Eve gathering.

Anne is survived by her children, Jim Hailey (Cindy) of Hampton, Va., Bill Hailey (Melinda), Theresa House (Scott), and Brian Hailey all of Henrico, Va., nieces Rachel Pence (Floyd) of Mechanicsville, Va., and Rebecca Hailey of Texas City, Texas, and sister Catherine Heath of Henrico, Va., as well as 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. Graveside services will be private. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 10, at 12 p.m. at Compass Christian Church, 8137 Liberty Cir., Mechanicsville, VA 23111.
