Ann Marie Mastej Burns, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 3, 2022. Ann, daughter of the late Frank and Caroline Mastej was born and raised in Detroit, MI and lived her adult life in Livonia and Waterford, Michigan, before moving to Richmond Virginia in 2014. Ann graduated from the Felician Academy High School in 1943 and from the University of Detroit in 1947. As a social worker, Ann spent her life helping others in her community and worked a 50-year career at the Polish Activities League, St. Elizabeth Community Center, Guardian Angel Home, Catholic Social Services, and Wyandotte General Hospital, all in Southeast Michigan. Ann was preceded in death by her husband Fred Burns, and siblings Joseph (Bertha) Mastej, Edward (Ann) Mastej, Stanley Mastej, Sr. Mary Martina Mastej, Ph.D., Sr. Mary Concepta Mastej, Cecile Wiseman, Lillian Taylor, and Theresa Kopczyk. Ann will be greatly missed by her children Keith (Christina) Burns and Corinne (Bill) Engle, grandchildren Andrew (Mesha) Burns, Carolyn (Gregg) Burns, Matt (Andrea) Engle, Brian (Teresa) Engle, Kelly Roberson, Samantha (Christian) Blackhurst, great-grandson, Ezra Engle, and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and dear friends that she loved as part of her extended family. Family will receive friends at St. Michael Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Rd, Glen Allen, VA 23060 on Monday, July 11 from 7-9 p.m. and July 12 from 1-2 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be held at 2 p.m. at the church.
