Gomer, Anita Payne, 76, of Highland Springs, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Knott Payne and Pauline Matthews Christian. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Gomer; her daughter, Amy Allen (Chris); stepdaughters, Ashleigh Roper (Roy) and Brook Houchens; grandchildren, Samantha, Cathryn, Ava, Sophia and Julia; one great-granddaughter, Brinley; and many beloved Matthews cousins. Originally from Orange, Virginia, Nita graduated from the Johnston-Willis School of Nursing and worked as a cardiac nurse for over a decade. The last thirty years of her career were spent running a small business with her husband in Carytown. She was an avid reader who loved second-hand bookshops, trips to the Peaks of Otter and spending time with her family. She will be missed tremendously. Funeral services will be private.
