Dr. Alan Scott Mills, 66, passed away on April 17, 2018, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Oliver Mills; and is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dr. Julia Hines Mills; his son Geoffrey Scott Mills and his fiancée, Erin; his son Brian Reade Mills and his wife, Laura; and his granddaughter Storey. He is also survived by his mother, Anne Mills; his sister Gail Clevenger and her husband, Ron; his brother Don Mills and his wife, Karen; and his sister Stacey Mills.

Scott was born in Norfolk, VA on September 27, 1951, but lived most of his life in Richmond. He graduated from Tucker High School in 1969. He obtained a B.S. in biochemistry with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1973 from the University of Georgia. After college, he went on to earn an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia where he was both a professor and surgical pathologist specializing in gastrointestinal pathology. Scott received multiple teaching awards of which he was most proud. He retired in 2013 after 36 years with MCV. He was an avid cyclist, an excellent storyteller, and a master in the kitchen.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229, with a reception to follow.
