Charlie Swanson, a Richmond native who swam for Henrico-based NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, earned a spot on the 2024 US Olympic men's swimming team during the US Olympic Team Trials qualifying competition in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Swanson qualified in the 100-meter breaststroke event, establishing a personal-best time of 59.16. The 2024 Olympic Games will be held next month in Paris.

Swanson is a 2015 graduate of St. Christopher’s School and was as a member of the USA National Junior Team from 2015 to 2017 and USA National Team for the past seven years.

At the University of Michigan, Swanson was a four-time All American and five-time Big 10 Champion in the 400 IM. He qualified for the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships each of the four years the event was held during his time in school.

Swanson also has medaled in the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, the 2019 Pan American Games, and the 2015 World Junior Championships.

“I am obviously excited, and it was nice to get it done early in the week,” said Swanson. “I’ve competed internationally in the 400 IM, 200 Breast and 100 Breast. I’ve always thought I would be good at sprinting and it turned out well! If was fun to have NOVA on my cap and represent where I came from and grew up.”

Said NOVA Head Coach David Schreck: “We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate Charlie and his amazing accomplishment in becoming a member of the 2024 US Olympic Team. “Charlie’s dedication, hard work, perseverance and never quit attitude shined through this week as we watched him leave it all in the pool. More than a great swimmer, Charlie is an amazing person. Words cannot express how excited and proud we are to have played a part in his path to the Olympics. The NOVA family looks forward to continuing to cheer for Charlie and all of his teammates in Paris!"
