Several popular Henrico destinations are included in the new Monopoly: Richmond Edition board game, which was unveiled Oct. 30 at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.

Lewis Ginter Botanical garden and Richmond Raceway were among the spaces that made the final board, along with the University of Richmond (which straddles the Henrico-Richmond line).

Monopoly: Richmond Edition replaces the perennial board game’s Atlantic City squares (from Boardwalk to Park Place) with Richmond-area cultural sites, historic landmarks, charitable organizations and businesses. It also features customized Community Chest and Chance playing cards to ensure the board is an enduring tribute to the Richmond region.

“We received a warm welcome from Richmond when we announced plans for Monopoly Richmond, and we greatly appreciate everyone who suggested landmarks, organizations and businesses that make Richmond unique and special,” said John Marano, a representative of game manufacturer Top Trumps USA. “We are pleased to release the final board and look forward to seeing Richmonders play the beloved game for many years to come.”

Other spaces included in the final board are:
• James River
• Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
• Richmond Kickers
• Community Chest (Daily Planet Health + Services)
• Maymont Foundation
• Virginia Lottery
• Brown’s Island
• Main Street Station
• Libby Hill Park
• Carytown
• ZZQ
• Community Chest (Richmond Animal Care and Control)
• Joe’s Inn
• Belle Isle
• Capitol Building
• Old City Hall
• Virginia War Memorial
• Historic St. John’s Church
• Children’s Museum of Richmond
• Virginia Washington Monument
• Forest Hill Park

The game is the only licensed version in the state, introduced by Top Trumps USA, the American division of Winning Moves International, creators of classic games and puzzles, and under license by Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.
