Northam: Virginia will begin Phase Three July 1

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced today that the state will begin Phase Three of its reopening next Wednesday, July 1. Data from Phase Two, which has been onging for nearly a month in most parts of the state, gave Northam and state officials the confidence to begin Phase Three, he said.

“We’re seeing a decline in people hospitalized with a positive or pending COVID-19 test that has been trending down for a couple weeks,” Northam said. “It is all in our hands as we move forward, we all have a responsibility to continue the social distancing, the hand washing, not gathering in large groups, and if we continue to do that I think our numbers will continue to trend favorably."

If those guidelines are not followed properly and there are surges in cases like some other states have seen, there is a possibility that the state would move back to Phase Two or One, Northam said.
