Nordstrom to close Short Pump location in June

Nordstrom will permanently close its Short Pump Town Center location in June, a store official told employees during a conference call May 7, the Citizen learned. A Nordstrom official later confirmed closure plans to the media but did not give an exact date.

Most eligible employees – including store management – will receive two weeks of severance pay, according to one source with knowledge of the situation. The company has not commented on that aspect of the closure, however.

"It's incredibly small and a lot of employees are upset about it," one store employee told the Citizen, on the condition of anonymity.

The Citizen, citing an earlier report from Women’s Wear Daily, first reported the possibility of the store’s closure Wednesday night.

Most of the store's 130 or so employees have been furloughed since mid-March, when the company shuttered all of its stores because of the pandemic. A few employees (primarily managers) have been conducting curbside services for shoppers during the weeks since. The store will not reopen to the public before the June closure, according to a source.
