Nominations open for 3rd annual RVA Sports Awards

The RVA Sports Awards will return for a third year on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Altria Theater, and organizers currently are seeking nominations for a variety of award categories.
Presented by Rosie’s Gaming Emporium and Colonial Downs, the RVA Sports Awards is organized by the Richmond Region Tourism Foundation and recognizes local athletes and leaders.
Nominations are open at rvasportsawards.com until Dec. 1 and include the following categories:
- Female Athlete of the Year
- Male Athlete of the Year
- Team of the Year sponsored by Synergy Technical
- Coach of the Year sponsored by Brown Distributing Company, Inc.
- Moment of the Year
- Youth Athlete of the Year sponsored by Techno Branded SWAG
- Youth Team of the Year
- Event Impact of the Year
Athletes and coaches participating in all levels of sports in the Richmond Region – from youth leagues and high schools to colleges and the professionals ranks – as well as from the area can be nominated.
Three finalists will be announced and public voting will begin on Dec. 15.
“The region’s sports community is unstoppable,” said Jack Berry, president and CEO of Richmond Region Tourism. “We’re thrilled to bring back the RVA Sports Awards to recognize the incredible talent in our area, while raising funds to grow local sports programs. Please nominate a deserving individual or team today.”
The signature event brings together a diverse group of athletes, coaches, fans and sports organizers and will benefit the Richmond Region Tourism Foundation’s Sports Tourism Grant initiative. The program distributes grants to local sports organizations to develop new events and expand the promotion of existing events to attract new visitors to the region.
The Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Richmond Region Tourism and works to advance the impact and benefit of tourism in the region by investing in local education, diversity and education and sports tourism programs.
Proceeds from the event will also support the RVA Sports Awards Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships annually to college students.
