A New York company with seven U.S. locations, including one in Henrico, has taken over the naming rights of one of the most famous college stadiums in the United States.

JMA Wireless and Syracuse University announced a 10-year agreement to rename the school’s on-campus stadium – known for more than 40 years as the Carrier Dome – as the JMA Wireless Dome. JMA is based in the Syracuse area but also operates five other technology centers in the United States, including one at 4551 Cox Road in Innsbrook. It also has two such centers in Europe.

JMA Wireless operates 5G wireless technology and recently was selected to provide the 5G equipment for SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022. The company is 10 years old.

The Syracuse dome – the largest domed stadium on any college campus in the nation – is home to the university's football, basketball and lacrosse programs. It can seat more than 49,000 fans for football and 33,000 for basketball. The dome had carried the Carrier air conditioning name since it opened in 1980. At the time, Carrier’s naming agreement with Syracuse in 1979 represented the first such agreement for a major college sports stadium and one of the first in all of sports.
