New principals in place at 14 Henrico schools

Table of Contents

Fourteen Henrico County public schools will have new leaders when the school year begins next month.

New principals will greet students at six elementary schools, five middle schools and three high schools. But none of the principals are new to the county – and half of them aren't new to being principals in Henrico.

High schools
New Deep Run High School principal Brian Fellows served the same role at Holman Middle School before earning his promotion. He replaces Lenny Pritchard, who moved to the school system's Central Office as assistant superintendent for operations after Al Ciarochi left the system.

John Marshall will take the reins at Freeman High School, where he had been an assistant principal. He'll replace Andrew Mey, who took a job in Central Office.

Former Rolfe Middle School Principal Michael Jackson will move across the county to take the same job at Hermitage High School. He'll replace Trae Turpin, who is now an assistant principal at Varina High.

Middle schools
Debbie George (formerly Samuel) will fill Jackson's old role at Rolfe, moving up from her spot as principal of Lakeside Elementary.

Pocahontas and Short Pump Middle Schools have swapped principals, with Kim Sigler taking over at Short Pump and Thomas McCauley moving to Pocahontas.

“They were among other principals within Henrico County looking for an opportunity to continue to grow as leaders,” Jenks told the Citizen. “Some change levels (from elementary to middle, or middle to high) and some choose to stay at the same level.”

Also at the middle school level, Melanie Phipps takes over as principal of Quioccasin Middle School, replacing former principal Cheri Guempel, who took a job in Central Office. Phipps had been associate principal at Tucker High School.

Elementary schools
At the elementary level, principal Rebecca Roper is moving from Donahoe Elementary to Ridge Elementary, replacing former principal Anna Hatfield, who went to Central Office.

Stephanie Williams will fill Roper's former role at Donahoe, moving there from her job as associate principal at Montrose Elementary.

Kirk Eggleston will move from Colonial Trail Elementary, where he had served as principal, to the same role at Gayton Elementary. Former Gayton principal Kim Sower retired.

Eggleston will be replaced at Colonial Trail by Kevin Schatz, former associate principal at Shady Grove Elementary.

Holly Drake, former associate principal at Glen Lea Elementary, will become principal at Lakeside, replacing George, who moved to Rolfe Middle.

Brooke Davis will take over as principal at Twin Hickory Elementary, leaving her role as associate principal at Dumbarton Elementary. Davis will replace former principal Mike Dussault, who left for a job in Central Office.

The first day of school in Henrico will be Tuesday, Sept. 3.
