New hearing aids restore quality of life for 85-year-old grandmother

Eighty-five-year-old Gisela Lloyd of Henrico, who has severe hearing loss, recently received new hearing aids thanks to the Beltone Hearing Care Foundation. The non-profit provides hearing aids to those in need but unable to access or afford them.

Lloyd's hearing loss had been getting worse, causing her to become depressed and to withdraw from doing things she enjoyed.  A hearing test at Beltone confirmed that she needed new hearing aids, but she is on a limited income, and still paying bills from recent cancer treatments and surgery.

When her daughter, Delores Lloyd, learned of the Foundation, she wrote an emotional letter on her mother's behalf. "Her hearing has gotten so bad, she can’t hear anything at all," Lloyd said of her mother. "It is so upsetting to her that she feels like she is a burden to all concerned. She really needs to be able to hear again."

Gisela Lloyd was approved by the Foundation, and was fit with her new hearing aids Nov. 20. “We are thrilled to be able to help Gisela Lloyd, obviously a person who is truly deserving and who needed our assistance in a huge way,” said Michael Andreozzi, CEO of Beltone Carolina/Virginia.
