New COVID cases in Henrico on slight downward trend in past week

New COVID-19 cases in Henrico County generally have continued a downward trend during the past week, according to Virginia Department of Health data. The county is now averaging 68 new daily cases during the past seven days, down from an average of 82 Oct. 8.

The county witnessed 82 new cases Thursday, its highest single-day total since 103 were reported Oct. 8. Henrico has seen only there new hospitalizations associated with the virus this week, but six deaths attributed to it in the county also have been reported during the same timeframe.

The seven-day positivity percentages in Henrico among PCR testing encounters (5.6%) and rapid testing encounters (5.5%) continue to remain well below the state averages of 7.5% and 6.9%, respectively.

Still, Henrico remains in the “high transmission” category along with all but three state localities (Fairfax, Loudoun and Charles City counties, each of which are in the “substantial” level, which is the next step down).

More than 60% of Henrico’s total population is fully vaccinated, and the county is within 800 people of reaching the 200,000-mark for fully vaccinated residents.
