The number of new daily COVID-19 cases in Henrico County during the most recent seven-day period is at its lowest level since Oct. 23 last year.

Henrico is witnessing just 32 new confirmed cases each day, according to data from the Virginia Department of Health. Since reporting 81 new cases April 18, Henrico has witnessed more than 60 cases on a single day only once, and this month, new case counts have been at 34 or lower each day except May 1 (when 54 cases were reported).

Henrico’s seven-day positivity percentage among PCR testing encounters has dropped all the way to 4.4% as of May 2 (the most recent date for which the data is available) among an average of 803 tests per day. The positivity percentage for rapid testing encounters in Henrico during the same period of time was down to 5.7% among an average of about 361 such tests per day.

During the first six days of May, Henrico reported 13 new hospitalizations and five new deaths related to the virus.

In Henrico, more than 115,000 people – or about 35% of the county’s population – are fully vaccinated. Another 158,000 people or so have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
