New COVID-19 cases in Henrico continue to drop

Henrico County reported 102 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday – one of the county’s lowest single-day counts this year – according to the Virginia Department of Health. The seven-day moving count continues to fall sharply, reaching an average of 147 daily cases.

Also Wednesday, there were two new hospitalizations related to the virus reported in Henrico, and no new virus-related deaths, according to the VDH.

As of Jan. 30, there is a 10.6 percent seven-day positivity rate among PCR testing encounters in Henrico County, one of the lowest rates since December, according to the VDH. Equally encouraging is that the average seven-day positivity rate among rapid antigen testing encounters has fallen to 7 percent, a rate not seen since November. This data lags behind a few days to include as many testing encounters as possible.

Almost 38,000 vaccines have been administered in Henrico County, according to VDH data, and more than 5,700 Henricoans have received both doses of the vaccine necessary for full inoculation.

In Virginia, an average of about 40,000 vaccines are being administered daily. With 895,005 doses administered thus far, about 9 percent of the state's population has had at least one dose, according to the VDH.

Henrico has reported more than 150 outbreaks – incidents in which two or more related cases have been discovered – according to VDH data. More than 3,200 cases in Henrico are related to these outbreaks, as well as more than 1,000 infections among healthcare workers on the front lines. Outbreaks continue to be most common among long-term care facilities in Virginia, reaching almost 30,000 statewide.
