A local nonprofit organization soon will launch a mobile HIV testing program, as well as a mobile food pantry.

The Nationz Foundation, which serves metro Richmond and the Tri-Cities regions, will target low-income and underserved communities in the region with the mobile unit. Funding for the program comes from a grant by the Laughing Gull Foundation with assistance from Virginia Pride, through its partnership with Kroger Mid-Atlantic.

The mobile unit was one of the long-term goals of the Nationz Foundation, which provides education and information about HIV prevention and overall health and wellness.

"Nationz has a proud history of serving our community and reaching those who are often most marginalized, including low-income people of color and those who identify as LGBTQIA," said Nationz's founder and Executive Director Zakia McKensey. "This new mobile unit will allow us to take our services to where they are needed most and to eliminate barriers that often prevent those who need help from seeking it."

The unit will operate three days a week and is expected to serve hundreds of families and individuals each month.
