Henrico High School graduate Rashida Jones has resigned as president of MSNBC.
Jones had held the role since Feb. 1, 2021, following seven years at the company during which she helped launch a number a digital services, including NBC News Now. When she took the top spot at the network, it was a groundbreaking move: she became the first Black executive named to the top spot at a major TV news network.
The network named its senior vice president of content strategy, Rebecca Kutler, as interim president.
When she took the role of president, Jones told Henrico Schools officials that she owed much to her experience in the county as a student.
“I often think back to walking the campus of Henrico High School where my teachers pushed me toward academic excellence and emboldened my passion to lead through my work," she said. "I have Henrico County Public Schools to thank for inspiring me to achieve goals beyond my dreams.”
