Steel G. De Groft of Glen Allen was accepted into St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. for the fall 2021 school year. De Groft graduated from Glen Allen High School.


Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. has named Kathryn Carithers of Henrico to the BJU String Orchestra. Carithers is a sophomore majoring in Keyboard Performance.


Emily LaBorne of Glen Allen graduated in May from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She earned a degree in Health Sciences.


Brian Turner of Henrico recently graduated with a master of business administration degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.


The following local students were accepted into Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. for the fall 2021 school year: Walker Wilson, Timmy Dillard, Kareem Hargrove and George Freeman, of Henrico; and Erin Clancy and Ayman Chowdhury, of Glen Allen.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his administration. To the Commission to Examine Racial and Economic Inequity in Virginia Law, Northam appointed: Cynthia Hudson of Henrico, counsel at Sands Anderson and former chief deputy attorney general of Virginia; Henry L. Chambers, Jr. of Henrico, professor of law at University of Richmond; and Rev. Pierre Greene of Henrico, register representative at Capitol Financial Solutions. To the Rare Disease Council, Northam appointed: Maureen E. Dempsey of Glen Allen, regional vice president and senior clinical officer at Anthem BCBS; and Dr. Tiffany Kimbrough of Henrico, associate professor, School of Medicine, at Virginia Commonwealth University. Northam also appointed Ann L. Williams of Henrico to the Board of Long-Term Care Administrators. Williams is a retired interim dean of instruction at Germanna Community College.
