The leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa recently initiated the following local students: Loyal Grimes of Glen Allen at Hampden-Sydney College; and Sarah Rowe, Cara Menges and Julia Gibson of Henrico at The College of William & Mary. Students initiated into the society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class. Students must demonstrate leadership experience and embrace ODK ideals.


Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, recently initiated the following local students at Virginia Commonwealth University: Samantha DeShazo, Joshua Hafker, Phyllis King, Sadaf Moradi, Samantha Pagel and Jennifer Rivers, of Glen Allen; and Brie Dubinsky, Ann Sherie Gracious Ross, Matthew Hussmann, Parker Stanley, Michael Vo, Kelsey Bailey, Saad Bhatti, Megan Blackwood, Alexandria Brown, Melissa Cisewski, Sarah Delaney, Harrison Elder, Jarman Fagalde, Bridget Ferguson, Abigail Finkelston, Matthew Harper, Robert Hawranko, Sara Howick, Cathy Hoyt, Madison Isbell, Harry Jones IV, Megan Kaufman, Vanessa Martinez, Samantha Mladen, Joseph Picone, Kara Rademeyer, Hadley Rahrig, Charles Rutledge, Wendemi Sawadogo, Elizabeth Smith, Frances Stadlin, Kayla Tugan, Clair Walters, Ernest Washington II and Emily Zaylor, of Henrico.


George Monahan of Henrico recently graduated from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. He was a Marine Science major.


Governor Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his administration: Board for Barbers and Cosmetology – reappointment of Margaret LaPierre of Henrico, licensed master esthetician/instructor at Skin Therapy of Virginia LLC; Board of Veterans Services – Susan Vervaet Riveland of Henrico, adjunct professor at Rider University, freelance writer and U.S. Army veteran; Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council – Tracy Retchin of Glen Allen, attorney; State Rehabilitation Advisory Council – Heidi Lawyer of Henrico, resource development, Parent Education Advocacy; Training Center – reappointment of Madeline Helen Nunnally of Henrico; Statewide Independent Living Council – reappointment of Judy Jackson of Glen Allen, director of instruction for the Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired, and reappointment of Eric Raff of Henrico, director for the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
