Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) recently announced the inaugural Fourth Congressional District Veteran of the Year as Dr. Harold Sayles, a resident of Henrico County. Dr. Sayles is a United States Army veteran who served in Operation Urgent Fury – Grenada and Desert Storm. He achieved the rank of major and, in addition to many other awards, received the Bronze Star for Valor Medal and the Legion of Merit. Dr. Sayles is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and has served as the state chaplain for the Department of Virginia's Veterans of Foreign Wars since 2015. He is an associate pastor of Rising Mount Zion Baptist Church in Henrico and is involved with the Boy Scouts. He also serves as president of the Board of Directors of Interfaith Adult Day Care and is the second vice president of the Virginia Association of Area Agencies on Aging. Professionally, Dr. Sayles serves as the executive director of the Crater District Area Agency on Aging.


Bowdoin College recently held its annual Sarah and James Bowdoin Day ceremony to honor undergraduates who distinguish themselves with excellence in scholarship. Ann Mahoney and Diana Wickersham of Henrico were designated as Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholars because they were in the top 20 percent of their class during the previous academic year. Mahoney and Wickersham are members of the Class of 2023.


Aaron Fowlkes and Emaan Mughal of Glen Allen were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at New York Institute of Technology. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
