Gov. Glenn Youngkin recently announced an additional appointment to his administration: Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System – Dr. Susan Tinsley Gooden of Henrico, dean of Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University.


Hannah Smith of Henrico has been named a peer mentor for the 2023-24 academic year at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Peer mentors serve as a resource to new students during their first semester at UW-Whitewater, leading them through the Warhawk Welcome, joining them in their New Student Seminar section, and checking in individually. Throughout the fall semester, peer mentors remain in contact with new students and help them feel at home on campus. Smith is majoring in Communication.


The following local students were named to the fall 2023 dean’s list at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.: Eva Brooks, Kenley Sapp and Macy Yoder, of Glen Allen; and Kendall Betz, Jackson Michalik and Mary Helms, of Henrico. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher.


Charlotte Racine of Henrico was named to the fall 2023 dean’s list at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.92 or higher.


The following students from Henrico County recently were initiated into the all-discipline collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi: Halley Brewer (Elon University), Sherida Haughton (Marymount University), and Kiara Williams (Longwood University). Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
