U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger of Virginia’s 7th District recently received the first-ever “Jefferson-Hamilton Award for Bipartisanship” from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne Clark and Chamber Chief Policy Officer Neil Bradley presented Spanberger with the award, which is given to the top 10 U.S. Senators and top 20 U.S. House members — apportioned by party. The award is based on the number of bills a member cosponsors that were introduced by a member of the opposite party, except those formally opposed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The announcement was made during the first U.S. Chamber of Commerce Governing with Distinction Ceremony June 9.


Adam Krug from Henrico recently was awarded a $10,000 annual STEM Scholarship from Lockheed Martin. This award is presented to students, who have demonstrated leadership capabilities through volunteer work, mentoring younger students, STEM-focused extracurricular activities, and work experience. Krug plans to major in electrical engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University.


Shivani Kundalia and Uday Patil of Henrico and Brock Smith of Glen Allen earned faculty honors for the spring 2020 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Faculty honors are awarded to students who earn a 4.0 academic average for the semester.


Michelle Morrisey of Henrico graduated in May with a BSED Early Childhood Education from Clarion University in Pennsylvania.


McKayla Cotton, Avera Pearson and Shayla Spruill of Henrico were named to the fall 2019 honors list at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. To qualify for the honors list, students must earn a grade point average of 3.75 to 4.00 for the semester.


Jalen Gathers of Sandston was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a grade point average of 3.50 to 3.74 for the semester.


The following area students recently graduated from the University of Alabama: Michael Apruzzese, of Glen Allen; and Finley Griffin, Samuel Guthrie, Barclay Jumet, Alec Pagano, Dylan Smith and Margaret Smith, of Henrico.


Noureldin Kassem of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


Tanesha Diamond Walker of Henrico graduated cum laude from Hollins University in Roanoke, Va. Walker, child of Sharon Burrell of Henrico, earned a bachelor of arts in creative writing.


Emma Hester of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at York College of Pennsylvania. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Hester is a junior chemistry major.


Naomi Davis and Angelo Joseph Olayvar of Henrico were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Davis is majoring in peacebuilding & development. Olayvar is majoring in business administration, political science and accounting.


Shayla Spruill of Henrico recently was awarded the Amy M. Rupe Award for Excellence in Asian Studies at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va.


Nolan Raike of Glen Allen and Courtney Teyssier of Henrico were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.


Emily Laborne of Glen Allen was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


Charles Altizer of Glen Allen recently graduated with a master of science in athletic administration from Ohio University.


Nahshon Webb and Dawn Karns of Henrico were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Ohio. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
