Henrico resident Kaitlin Dunn has earned a competitive summer internship with the American Philosophical Society (APS) in Philadelphia, Pa. As a collections intern, she is responsible for working with unique digitized archival holdings, generating meaningful metadata for historic documents, and enhancing descriptions in published guides. Dunn, a rising junior at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., is majoring in political science and history with a minor in journalism, editing, and publishing. She obtained her internship through the Starr Center at Washington College's Explore America Summer Internship program, which annually places more than two dozen students in full-time, paid positions at nationally prominent cultural institutions.


Elizabeth A. Steilberg of Henrico is a recipient of the 2021 Johnson Opportunity Grant at Washington and Lee University. Steilberg either will work in the U.S. or travel overseas. The grants, which are funded as part of the Johnson Program in Leadership and Integrity, cover living, travel and other costs associated with the students' proposed activities and vary in amount from $1,000 to $4,500. Steilberg is a graduate of Freeman High School.


Aven Jones of Henrico is one of 62 recipients nationwide to be awarded a fellowship worth $8,500 by The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, an all-discipline collegiate honor society. Jones received a bachelor's degree in Scientific Illustration from the University of Georgia. As a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow, Jones will pursue a master's degree in biomedical visualization at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The selection process for a fellowship is based on the applicant's evidence of graduate potential, undergraduate academic achievement, service and leadership experience, letters of recommendation, personal statement of educational perspective and career goals, and acceptance in an approved graduate or professional program.


Darlene Godoy Macatangay of Glen Allen graduated with distinction from Pacific University in Oregon in May with a doctor of physical therapy from the College of Health Professions.


Bernard Ndayishimiye of Henrico graduated June 10 with a bachelor of science in Business Administration from Berea College in Kentucky.


Vidya Mastriyana of Henrico was named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at Berea College. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher.


Elizabeth Grace Malone of Glen Allen earned a graduate degree in May from the University of Tennessee at Martin.


Rena Chen of Henrico graduated in May with a bachelor of science in Business Administration-Accounting from the Rochester Institute of Technology.


The following local students were named to the spring 2021 dean’s list at the Rochester Institute of Technology: Ricky Chen, Rena Chen and Liz Stublen, of Henrico; and Hongfei Zhu, of Glen Allen. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.40 or higher.


The following local students recently graduated from Shenandoah University: Sade Toombs, Emily Vaughan, Devin Jones, Justin Trickett, Emily Tuck and Ayomide Adebowale, of Henrico; and James Chisum and Robert Nowicki, of Glen Allen.


The following students from Henrico County graduated May 27 from Washington and Lee University: Sarah Katherine Concepcion, Bridget Ann Bartley, Joseph Robert Howard Hoskins, Dillard Chappell Laughlin III, Andrew Shelton Ryan III, Corinne Grace Joireman, Whitby Stack Goode and Samuel Thomas Murphy.


Elizabeth Grace Kastelein of Henrico graduated magna cum laude in May from Wheaton College in Illinois. She earned a bachelor of arts in English Writing with a minor in Urban Studies.
