Laura Beamer of Henrico recently graduated with a bachelor of science degree from the College of William & Mary. Beamer also was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.6 quality point average for the semester.


The following local students were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.: Feihan Yu, of Glen Allen; and Carter Winston Ware, Elizabeth Shumate Read and Mary Elizabeth McCarthy, of Henrico. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.625 or higher.


The following Henrico County students graduated May 10 from University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.: Mary Elizabeth McCarthy, Mary Temple Moore, Penn Caplin Mayhew, William Coleman Andrews and Carter Winston Ware.

The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond recently announced new board members and officers. Effective July 1, board officers are Bernie Henderson, president; Stephanie Churchill, vice president/president-elect; Hal Costley, immediate past president; Pam Atwood, secretary; and Sally Youngs, treasurer. Board members are Ruth Blevins, Betty Ann Dillon, Jim Evans, Peter Goodman, John Gordon, Ralph Graner, Art Gunlicks, Carol Harris, Mary Maiden, Carol Parke, Janet Simmons and Susie Wiltshire.


Peter Van der Wolk of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 honors list at Pomfret School in Connecticut. To be eligible for the honors list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.330 or higher.


Jeremy Curtis of Glen Allen was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at University of Minnesota Twin Cities. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.66 grade point average for the semester.


Meredith Palmer of Glen Allen recently graduated with a bachelor of arts in Advertising from Harding University in Searcy, Ark.

Anwio Rowland of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of South Carolina Aiken. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Rowland is majoring in Psychology.


Olivia Carey of Henrico recently was named a 2020 Gold Key Honor Society Inductee at Emerson College in Boston, Mass. The Gold Key Honor Society is an interdisciplinary organization founded at Emerson to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement. Membership is extended to juniors in the top five percent and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who have earned at least 48 credits at Emerson. Carey, a member of the Class of 2020, is a Writing, Lit & Pub major.


The Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association recently awarded $2,500 scholarships to ten high school seniors entering Virginia Tech for the first time. Local winners include Nitya B. of Henrico High School; Will C. of Freeman High School; Kathryn D. of Godwin High School; and Caroline L. of Collegiate School.


The Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association recently announced new chapter officers for the 2020-21 fiscal year. The new leaders are Elyssa Mackey, president; Aaran Kelley, president-elect; Cotter Starnes, corresponding secretary; Steven Smith, treasurer; Patrice Strachan, recording secretary; and Jason Habel, past president.
