Josh Goldberg was elected president of the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, effective July 1, at the organization’s recent annual meeting at the Virginia Holocaust Museum. He most recently served as vice president and a member of the executive committee of the JCFR. He succeeds Amy Nisenson as president after she completed her two-year term.

Other officers elected at the meeting: Shelley Gouldin, vice president; Matt Grossman, secretary/treasurer; Dr. David Galpern, impact/allocations chair; Brian Greene, financial resource development chair; Robert Slotnick, Jewish community relations committee chair; Rabbi Sherry Grinsteiner, Rabbinic council representative; Amy Nisenson, immediate past president and Daniel Staffenberg, CEO of the JCFR.

Board members elected include: Susan Adolf, Daniel Brandeis, Richmond Jewish Foundation; Phyllis Ellenbogen, Sylvia Farbstein, Seth Feibelman, Seth Kaplan, Susan Kornstein, Hedy Lapkin, Lisa Looney, Tatyana Manelis, Amy Melnick-Scharf, Susan Meyers, Samuel Revenson, Charley Scher, Daniel Siegel, Steven Skaist, Richard Thalhimer, James Weinberg and Amanda Young.


Gov. Glenn Youngkin recently announced additional key administration and board appointments: Virginia Asian Advisory Board – Goutam Gandhi of Henrico, co-founder and managing partner at 4MGroup, and My Lan Tran of Glen Allen, executive director of the Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce; Virginia LGBTQ+ Advisory Board – Alonzo Mable of Henrico, logistics manager at NAVSEA; Board of Dentistry – Dr. Surya Dhakar of Glen Allen, dentist at Surya P. Dhakar DDS, PC; Board of Medicine – Leroy Brown Vaughan Jr., MD of Henrico, medical director at Clinical Research Partners, LLC and medical director of infectious diseases at Infusion Solutions, LLC; State Child Fatality Review Team – Dr. Robert Dumas of Henrico, emergency medicine physician at Vituity, Inc.; Volunteer Firefighters’ and Rescue Squad Workers’ Service Award Fund Board – R. James Boyd, Hanna Cillo and Walker Cummins of Henrico were named to the spring 2024 dean’s list at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


Kumud Altmayer of Henrico graduated May 11 with a master’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.


Marie Moeller of Henrico graduated May 18 with a bachelor's degree in Art from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.


Johnelle Torbert and Adedasola Ademola of Henrico recently were initiated into Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Torbert is a student at Radford University and Ademola is a student at the University of Tennessee. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.
