The following local students were named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Alabama: Christin Elia, Lauren Golmon, Claudia Long, Alden Moreton and Julia Spalding, of Glen Allen; and Grayson Rogers, William Berling, Eleanor Dillon, Charlotte Dudley, Anna Marks, Helen Russell, Margaret Smith, Thi Xuan Ngan Trang, Kendall Whitaker and Carter Chambliss, of Henrico. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


The following local students were named to the spring 2020 president’s list at the University of Alabama: Mackenzie O’Barr and Emilie Saksvig, of Glen Allen; and Stewart Berling, Bridget Boggs, Chandler Combs, Caroline Curtis, Caroline Godkin, Barclay Jumet, Alec Pagano, Cecelia Phillips, Henry Simril and Benjamin Tavenner, of Henrico. To qualify for the president’s list, students must earn a grade point average of 4.0 for the semester.


Charles Evans of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at the University of Kentucky. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 or higher. Evans in majoring in Liberal Studies.


Jayden Huynh-Vuong

New Voices for the Theater, a playwriting competition and workshop that showcases original one-act plays by high school students from Virginia, has chosen Jayden Huynh-Vuong of Glen Allen to be one of eight 2020 New Voices for the Theater award-winning playwrights. Huynh-Vuong, a rising senior at Glen Allen High School, submitted his one-act play Red Butterfly earlier this year where it was evaluated along with 173 other plays by a panel of theatre artists and educators. Winning playwrights are participating in a virtual workshop this summer through the School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community (SPARC). In addition, Red Butterfly will be produced in a staged reading that will be rehearsed, recorded and released online as part of the Festival of New Works, premiering on the SPARC website July 14-17. The festival is free to access with donations to benefit SPARC and New Voices for the Theater.


Erin Leigh Heller

Erin Leigh Heller has been awarded her PhD from Virginia Tech, College of Fisheries and Wildlife Science. A 2007 graduate of Douglas Freeman High School, Heller received her bachelor's Summa Cum Laude from Virginia Tech and Master's from Old Dominion University. Among the awards and distinctions she received during her academic career were the Pamplin Scholar Award (VT), Rachael Hill Memorial Scholarship (VT), ODU Champion of Diversity Award, and VT Excellence in Access and Inclusion Award. She was also founder of the BARC Club at VT, and in 2015 was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship to complete her PhD. In August, Erin will join Randolph College in Lynchburg as an assistant professor of biology.


Leadership Metro Richmond has announced its board officers for the 2020-21 fiscal year. New officers include: Chair – Mona Siddiqui, assistant attorney general for the Commonwealth of Virginia; Chair-elect – George Forsythe, CPA and managing partner at WellsColeman; Secretary – Chris Accashian, president of St. Francis Medical Center and Rappahannock General Hospital – Bon Secours Richmond Health System; Treasurer – Paula Reid, director of human resources at Virginia Retirement System; and Immediate Past Chair – Robin Brewster, community volunteer. New directors include: Tyren Frazier, executive director of Chesterfield Education Foundation; Lisa Ramirez, senior vice president of YMCA of Greater Richmond; and Eileen Yost, assistant vice president of tax at CarMax.


Catherine Smith of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s list at Shenandoah University. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher.


Quantae J. Robinson of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 dean’s honor roll at Wichita State University in Kansas. To qualify for the dean’s honor roll, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher.


Hannah Hawkins of Henrico was named to the spring 2020 president’s honor roll at Oklahoma Baptist University. To be eligible for the president’s honor roll, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.7 or higher.


Elizabeth Harden of Glen Allen recently was initiated into the all-discipline collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi. Harden is a student at Old Dominion University.


Tatiana Boelen of Henrico recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College.
