Naomi Davis of Henrico was named as one of 10 graduating seniors at Eastern Mennonite University to receive the 2021 Cords of Distinction. Davis will wear the blue and gold cords along with her other academic regalia during the Cords of Distinction ceremony and 2021 commencement walk. Faculty, staff and fellow students nominate recipients for their “significant and verifiable impact” on university and student life, community contributions, high academic and social standing, and embodiment of EMU values. Davis is a peacebuilding and development major with minors in global studies and religious and intercultural studies.


The following area students were named to the fall 2020 dean’s list at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.: Emily Arruda, Eva Brooks, Kristen Janes and Russell Richards, of Glen Allen; and Hallie Miller, of Henrico. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher.


The Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners recently awarded its President’s Award to Del. Dawn M. Adams, DNP, ANP-BC, who represents the 68th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. Adams was recognized for her outstanding contributions as a nurse practitioner.


Micah Cohen of Henrico was awarded a gold star for the fall 2020 semester at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. To achieve this honor, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.7 or higher. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel's dean's list.


Sarah Stansell and Sydney Walsh of Henrico recently were initiated into the all-discipline collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi. Stansell and Walsh were initiated at Longwood University.
