Nurse practitioner Helen Willis recently received the Education Award from the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners for outstanding contributions to NPs in the areas of education and patient care. Willis serves as a nurse practitioner in the cardiothoracic surgery department at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, where she also serves as a preceptor to many NP students each year. She was honored with the award for her continued commitment to the education of VCNP members through conferences and preceptorship. She shares knowledge with students, nurses, medical staff, non-medical persons, and patients to ensure understanding and growth.


Phi Kappa Phi, a collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines, recently initiated the following local students at James Madison University: Dylan McFarlane and Joselyne Tran, of Glen Allen; and Holden Winoker and Sarah Eggleston, of Henrico. John Lore Jr. of Glen Allen also was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi. Lore is a student at Florida Institute of Technology.


Glen Allen residents Ashley Henneberger and Samuel Robelen recently were initiated into the national leadership honor society Omicron Delta Kappa. Henneberger is a student at Davidson College and Robelen is a student at Hampden-Sydney College. Students initiated into the society must be sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate/professional students in the top 35% of their class. Students must demonstrate leadership experience and embrace ODK ideals.
