Milestones

Emerson College freshman Cali Bruce of Glen Allen earned NEWMAC First-Team All-Conference honors as a defender for the Emerson Women's Soccer team's 2019 season. Bruce is one of four defenders on the team, and she helped the Lions to only allow 18 goals over the season. She added two goals and four assists in her first collegiate season. Bruce is a member of the class of 2023 and is majoring in Sports Communication.

The following local students at Virginia Commonwealth University recently were initiated into the all-discipline collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi: Nidhi Kumar, Farheen Zaman, Saima Panjwani, Debra Barksdale, Daniel Gillespie, Mehtab Khara, Benjamin Widener and Javon Johnson, of Glen Allen; and Meghan Beard, Margaret Edwards, Nicole George, Abigail Mariani, Frankie Mastrangelo, Jordyn Prell, Rachel Worthington, Andrew Zabala, Quinn Hurshman, Rebecca Collen, Christopher Flippen, Charles Klink, Randi Thompson, John Les, Stevara Clark, Anna Priday, Moeen Meftahi, Sombo Muzata Chunda, Alan Taylor Jr., Jaime Moore, Enkelejda Ngjelina, Julia Higginbotham, Megan Rollins, Ashley Sharpe, Bobby Vallejo, Tracy Kramer, Nikita Chin, Lesley Coots, Edmund Hannum III, Omar Karim, Brianna Dickerson, Jillian Foraker and Cristina Cundiff, of Henrico.

Gov. Ralph Northam recently appointed Peter Farrell of Henrico to the Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors. Farrell is managing partner of Tuckahoe Holdings.

Emily Erard-Stone of Henrico, a senior at Bates College, spent the summer researching melt viscosities in silica-undersatured systems with Assistant Professor of Geology Genevieve Robert. She was among more than 240 students who received support from Bates in order to accept summer work that facilitated professional exploration and reflection about fulfilling future career paths. Erard-Stone's research was funded by a National Science Foundation faculty grant. She is the child of Giles R. Stone Jr. and Andrea G. Erard of Henrico, and is a 2016 graduate of Collegiate School.
