Milestones

George Walker of Henrico recently was designated a Sarah and James Bowdoin Scholar at Bowdoin College in Maine. The designation honors students who are in the top 20 percent of each class for the previous academic year. In addition, those scholars who earned a grade point average of 4.0 are designated Sarah and James Bowdoin Book Award winners. Walker, a member of the class of 2021, is majoring in Earth and Oceanographic Science.

You Jin Lee, a senior at Freeman High School, was a runner-up in the high school category of the Virginia War Memorial's 2019 Veterans Day Student Essay Contest. The contest's topic was “A Virginian Who Served in the Military in the 20th or 21st Century Who Inspired Me.” Winners were announced at the Commonwealth’s Veterans Day Ceremony held November 11 at the Virginia War Memorial in Richmond.

Anna Kristine Hubbard of Henrico recently was inducted into the Order of the Gown at the University of the South in Tennessee. The Order of the Gown is an academic honor society and a unique student government body among U.S. colleges and universities. The wearing of the gown is both a sign of academic achievement and a promise to continue the ideals and traditions of the University. Hubbard is the daughter of John A. Hubbard and Kristine A. Hubbard.
