Nuckols Farm Elementary School Rubik’s Cube team, the “NFE Foxes,” and solo competitors have earned Elite Team and Elite Cubers status, as well as top rankings in the You CAN Do the Rubik’s Cube Speed League. The team solved 25 3x3 Rubik’s Cubes in 3:23 at the Virginia Regionals, 9th Annual Rubik’s Cube Competition during the 2018-19 school year. During the solo portion of the competition, Heath Wasserman and Caleb Scott each solved a single 3x3 Rubik’s Cube in 31.4 and 35.4 seconds, respectively. The Nuckols Farm Elementary School team ranks first in Virginia among division1 (grades K-5) teams. Wasserman and Scott rank first and second, respectively, in the state among elementary school students.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his administration. Vida Williams of Henrico was reappointed to the Virginia Biotechnology Research Partnership Authority. Williams is a data scientist at SingleStone Consulting, Inc.


The following area students graduated in May from Boston University: Alexandra L. Daniel, of Henrico; and Leslie M. Sale and Nivetha Saravanan, of Glen Allen. Daniel received a bachelor of science in Communication. Sale received a doctor of philosophy in Political Science. Saravanan received a bachelor of arts in Medical Science, summa cum laude.


The following area students earned dean’s list honors for the spring 2019 semester at Georgia Institute of Technology: Satya Koppu and Emily Sheppard, of Glen Allen; and Uday Patil and Haley Kellam, of Henrico. To earn dean’s list honors, students must earn a semester academic average of 3.0 or higher.


Addison Gabrielle Prewett of Henrico was named to the spring 2019 dean’s academic honor list at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. To qualify for the dean’s academic honor list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.7 or higher.


Kate Reamsnyder, a sophomore religion major at Hillsdale College in Michigan, recently was named to the school's dean's list for the spring 2019 semester. She is the daughter of Tom and Marybeth Reamsnyder of Henrico and is a 2017 graduate of Freeman High School.

Kayla Sell graduated May 19 with a bachelor of science in Computer Science from the University of Rochester in New York. She is the daughter of Allen Sell and Karen Sell of Glen Allen and a graduate of Henrico High School.


Rachel Durrette of Henrico will be a member of the upcoming freshman class at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. Durrette will be majoring in Nursing when classes begin September 4.


Logan Douglas of Henrico recently participated in the Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program. Douglas, a 2016 graduate of Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, studied in Japan through the Associated Kyoto Program. Douglas, who is majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Japanese, is the child of Teresa Douglas of Henrico.


The following students from Henrico County graduated May 12 from University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.: Kalon D. Johnson, Megan Stewart Sheehy, Benjamin Lee Ellis, Cynthia Lee Spratley, Henry Alan Wingfield, Thomas Harrington Lynde and Margaret Ingram Legro.


Nathan Taylor and Katherine Marlatt of Henrico graduated in May from Mercer University in Georgia. Taylor received a doctor of ministry. Marlatt received a doctor of physical therapy.


Jovita Bindip of Henrico and Kourtney Goodman of Glen Allen were named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average between 3.50 and 3.74.


Local students earned academic honors for the spring 2019 semester at the University of Alabama. Named to the dean’s list are: James Cover, David Edwards, Benedict Elia, Lauren Golmon and Mackenzie O’Barr, of Glen Allen; and Maura Lyons, Bridget Boggs, Thomas Dillon, Finley Griffin, Anna Marks, Allison Mitchell, Taylor Pawlowski and Benjamin Tavenner, of Henrico. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Named to the president’s list are: Meredith Taylor, of Glen Allen; and Lily Calkins, Patricia Calkins, Juliana Strobing and Laura Valentine, of Henrico. To be eligible for the president’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 4.0.


Claire M. Pitzer of Henrico was awarded faculty honors for the spring 2019 semester at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. Faculty honors are awarded to students with a semester grade point average of 3.667 or higher.
