Qadira Khaalida Muhammad of Henrico received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Student Award May 18 from Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va. The award is one of the highest honors that MBU bestows, recognizing the recipient’s excellence of character and humanitarian service. Muhammad also was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. To be elected to Phi Beta Kappa, a student must demonstrate a commitment to the pursuit of excellence in the liberal arts and sciences, and eligibility requirements include a high grade point average, foreign language, mathematics, and laboratory science.


James C. Tyler of Henrico is one of 28 scholarship recipients from the U.S. Military Academy Class of 2019, which has cadets graduating from all 50 states. Tyler was awarded an MIT Lincoln Labs Fellowship. The class graduated and was commissioned May 25.


The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants announced the winners of its 2019 Outstanding Member and Top 5 Members Under 35 at an awards ceremony May 16 in Richmond. Asif Charania, CPA, 32, is a senior manager, valuation & forensic services at Keiter in Glen Allen and was named one of the Top 5 Under 35. He served as chair of the VSCPA’s Young Professionals Advisory Council and served on the VSCPA’s LEAD Task Force and the Business Valuation, Fraud & Litigation Services Conference Committee. He is a graduate of James Madison University.


Jacob Lawson and Neha Rai of Henrico were named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher.


Christian Taylor and Precious Waddy of Henrico graduated May 5 from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va. Taylor earned a bachelor of science in Business Administration and Recreation Leadership and Sport Promotion cum laude and a minor in Coaching. Waddy earned a bachelor of arts in Social Work and a minor in Criminology and Restorative Justice.


Emily Reynolds of Henrico recently graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. Reynolds earned a bachelor of science in Mathematics.


Asha Iyer of Henrico was named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Tufts University in Massachusetts. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or higher.

Brian Keen of Henrico recently graduated from Iowa State University. Keen received a degree in Human Computer Interaction.


Dylan R. Leigh-Manuell of Glen Allen was named a presidential scholar for the spring 2019 semester at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. Presidential scholars must earn a minimum 3.80 grade point average for the semester.


John Kastner of Henrico earned honors for the spring 2019 semester at Concordia University in Seward, Neb. The top 25 percent of all undergraduate students who complete at least 12 credit hours on the traditional A-F grading scale qualify for the honors list.
