Mary Baldwin University recognized and celebrated students' academic achievements at the annual Honors Convocation on March 28. Qadira Muhammad of Henrico received the Margarett Kable Russell Award, given in memory of Margarett Kable Russell, editor of the 1902 Bluestocking and the first female member of the Mary Baldwin Board of Trustees. The recipient, selected by vote of the faculty, is a rising senior who excels in academic achievement, character and service. The person honored is known as the Russell Scholar and works on a special research project in his/her field.


At the Leadership Awards Ceremony on April 9, Mary Baldwin University recognized outgoing student leaders for their dedication and engagement. Ariel Robinson of Henrico received the Boldly Baldwin Award, given to a student for demonstrating exceptional school spirit and a desire to mentor and help fellow students.


The following local students recently were initiated into the all-discipline collegiate honor society Phi Kappa Phi: Tanya Wineland (Kansas State University) of Glen Allen; and Anna Lacy (University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and Callie Copeland (Auburn University) of Henrico.


Hannah Kelley and Norrin Nicholas of Henrico graduated May 5 from the University of Kentucky College of Arts and Sciences. Kelley earned a bachelor of arts in Psychology. Nicholas earned a bachelor of arts in Writing, Rhetoric and Digital Studies.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his administration. Anna Killius of Henrico was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Committee to the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council. Killius is a policy analyst at the James River Association. The Reverend Dr. Faith B. Harris of Varina was appointed to the Virginia Council on Environmental Justice. Harris is vice chair at Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy and chair at Virginia Interfaith Power and Light.
