The following James Madison University students recently participated in Alternative Spring Break trips around the country and world: Sydney Escobar, Anne Lynch, Alexander Pearce and Brielle Conley, of Glen Allen; and Iyana Cooper-Deyo, Jasmin DeBerry, Kyndall Hence, Kirsten Engleman and Reilly McNamara, of Henrico. The student-led trips, which took place March 4-11, focused on a social issue, such as homelessness, resettlement, environmentalism or community wellness in a specific region. Students spent the week living simply and focused on service in their destination community, as well as teamwork and reflection.


Michael Quinan of Henrico earned a dean’s award with distinction for the fall 2018 semester at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. To earn a dean’s award with distinction, students must receive a semester grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Quinan, a graduate of Godwin High School, is majoring in History.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently appointed The Honorable John M. O’Bannon, MD of Henrico to the State Board of Elections. O’Bannon is a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates.
