McDaniel College student Lauren Wells of Glen Allen presented student-faculty research findings at the annual Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology conference Jan. 3-7 in Tampa, Fla. Her paper measured how fish use their parts to feed and how that varies among species and was titled "Kinematics of cypriniform suction feeding: emerging patterns of functional diversity across sixteen species." Wells was among four McDaniel students who presented research with biology professor Katie Staab. The annual Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology conference is an educational and research forum for investigations of biology on a broad comparative scale.


Sneha B. Reddy of Glen Allen was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester at Shepherd University in West Virginia. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or greater.


Charlotte Cross of Henrico was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. To earn dean’s list status, students must maintain a 3.5 or greater grade point average for the semester. Cross, a senior majoring in biology, is a graduate of St. Catherine’s School.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently reappointed Reginald W. Nelson of Henrico to the Virginia Soybean Board. Nelson is owner of Colonial Acres Farm LLC.


University of Alabama student Barclay Jumet of Henrico will participate in UA's Cooperative Education Program for spring 2019. Jumet will be working at Hyster-Yale Group. In the Cooperative Education Program, more than 230 students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.


Ellie Kastelein of Henrico was named to the dean’s list with distinction for the fall 2018 semester at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa. To qualify for the dean’s list with distinction, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.60 to 3.84. Kastelein, a 2018 graduate of the Veritas Academy, is the daughter of Brian and Julie Kastelein. She is majoring in English.


Sarah Ashley Perkinson of Glen Allen graduated Dec. 20 from Clemson University in South Carolina. She earned a master of public administration in public administration.


Maggie Taylor of Henrico was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester at Dean College in Franklin, Mass.


Meredith Palmer of Glen Allen was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester at Harding University in Searcy, Ark. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.65 or greater. Palmer is a junior majoring in advertising.


The following area students graduated in December from James Madison University: Brayton Spicer, Libby Baughan, Christopher Hughes, Kimberly Fortune, Kelly Price, Morgan Wilmoth and Kasey Keup, of Glen Allen; and William D’Surney, Grace Cuevas, Kate Tyre, Alexa Evans, Cameron Williams, Taylor Robinson, Colin Alexander, Suzanne Varner and Cannan Keller, of Henrico.


Danielle L. Weldon of Glen Allen was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester at Chowan University.
