The Virginia Assisted Living Association has named Jennie Haden, executive director of Windsor Senior Living, as the recipient of the 2018 Assisted Living Administrator of the Year VALA Diamond Award. May Fox, VALA’s lobbyist with the Virginia General Assembly, was named the first recipient of the 2018 Senior Living Advocate VALA Diamond Award.  Awards were presented at the annual Assisted Living Leadership Luncheon held October 24. Fox has been a voice for Virginia industries that provide health and care services for Virginia’s citizens for more than 30 years. She has served in cabinet-level positions and on transition teams for several Virginia governors. Haden began her career as an LPN supervisor at Ginter Hall West in 1993; she later became medical assistant and transitioned to administrator/executive director of Spring Arbor in 2006.


The international honor society in social sciences, Pi Gamma Mu, at Chowan University recently held its awards ceremony. The North Carolina Alpha Beta Chapter Student Awards were presented to a Pi Gamma Mu member in each of the social science majors and one award to a graduate majoring in a field outside of the social sciences. To be eligible, the student must be a graduating senior and have demonstrated academic excellence in their field of study. The 2018 recipients include Danielle Weldon, of Glen Allen. Weldon received the History Student Award.
