Clara Windsor Cooke of Henrico graduated cum laude Aug. 4 from James Madison University. Cooke earned a degree in English.


Curtis James Kapsak of Glen Allen graduated Aug. 4 from The Graduate School at James Madison University. Kapsak earned a degree in Biology.


The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Office of Pesticide Services recently recognized Virginia Cooperative Extension agents for their outstanding performance in 2017. First place was awarded to Edward R. Olsen of Henrico and three other agents in neighboring counties for “2017 Private Pesticide Applicator Recertification.” This group from Central Virginia won the top award for their work in presenting up-to-date information in an innovative and diverse way to a large audience of pesticide applicators. The agents were recognized for listening to the needs expressed by the applicators and developing a workshop that was relevant and interactive.


Xiaopeng Hu of Henrico recently graduated from Boston University with a doctor of dental medicine degree in Dentistry Advanced Standing, Honors.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his Administration:
• Board of Conservation and Recreation – Angela S. Henderson, PhD of Glen Allen, assistant professor at Virginia State University
• Public Guardian and Conservator Advisory Board – Angie Phelon of Glen Allen, director of business and service development at Senior Connections, The Capital Area Agency on Aging Virginia Biotechnology Research Park Authority; and Vida Williams of Henrico, managing principal at Axis Partners and founder of Innovation Education Project
