Elizabeth Campbell Spilman, of Henrico, was inducted Sept. 21 into the Order of the Gown at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. The Order of the Gown is an academic honor society and student government body. The wearing of the gown is both a sign of academic achievement and a promise to continue the ideals and traditions of the University. Spilman is the daughter of Beth C. and Vance H. Spilman, Sr.


The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the summer 2018 semester at James Madison University: Sophia Harrison and William Maynard, of Henrico; and Emily LaPlante, of Glen Allen. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a semester grade point average between 3.5 and 3.899. Harrison is majoring in music and Maynard is majoring in graphic design. LaPlante is a theatre major.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his Administration:

  • Criminal Justice Services Board – Michael Hu Young, Esq., of Henrico, attorney at Barnes & Diehl, P.C.
  • State Rehabilitation Council – Madeline Nunnally, of Henrico, graduate student at VCU School of Rehabilitation Counseling
  • Statewide Independent Living Council – Gerald O’Neill LCSW, of Henrico, executive director of Resources for Independent Living, Inc. and Central Virginia Resource Corporation

Thomas Brewer, of Henrico, recently enrolled at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. as a member of the Class of 2022. Brewer is a graduate of Collegiate School.
