Speaker Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights) recently made the following re-appointments for non-legislative citizens of the Commonwealth: Commission on Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program – Michael Wade, Henrico County sheriff; Code Commission – Christopher R. Nolen, of Glen Allen; and Virginia Israel Advisory Board – Nathan A. Shor, of Henrico.


The following area students graduated May 4 from the graduate school at James Madison University: Katherine Elizabeth Kennedy, Justin Shane Ball, Danielle Rae Dolecki, Lauren Alexis Greenberg and Chelsie Hope Blunt, of Glen Allen; Sarah Kathleen Waters, Jessica Anne Drennon, Jeanette Cathleen Claussen, Mackenzie A. Kowal, Sylvia McKay Conner, Katherine Carter Blevins, Abigail Ellison Blouch, Halle Rae Duffie, Olivia Thompson Gaynor, Caroline May Myrtetus, Dana Lynn Wolinski, Allison Bryce Blanchetti, Grace Kemp Carter, Amy Annette Wilson and Katherine Elizabeth Davies, of Henrico; and Eva Anderson, of Sandston.


Olivia Carter Williams, of Glen Allen, was named to the president’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Clemson University in South Carolina. To earn this honor, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average for the semester.


Pooja Bakshi, of Henrico, graduated in May from Mercer University in Georgia. Bakshi earned a doctor of philosophy from the College of Pharmacy.


Gov. Ralph Northam recently announced additional appointments to his Administration. Jessica J. Stern, of Glen Allen, was named to the State Executive Council for Children’s Services. Stern is co-founder and COO of Connect Our Kids. The Hon. Debra H. Rodman, of Henrico, was named to the Virginia Interagency Coordinating Council. Rodman is a member of the Virginia House of Delegates.


Abel Opoku-Adjei, of Henrico, graduated June 13 from Monroe College in Bronx, N.Y. Opoku-Adjei earned an associate in Applied Science in Business Administration.


Mitchell Sutfin, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Students who rank in the top 20 percent of undergraduate students within each division for the semester are named to the dean’s list. He is majoring in Media and Culture, English (Creative Writing).


George Apostle, of Henrico, graduated May 19 from Loyola University in Baltimore, Md. He received a BA degree in Communication.


Collin Missimer, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a scholastic average of 3.6 or greater for the semester.


Sierra Burrell, of Henrico, recently graduated from the University of Iowa. She received a MPH-MPH Program degree.


The following area students graduated May 24 from Washington and Lee University: Natalie Sloane Smith and Linden Lowery Walus, of Glen Allen; and Caroline Younghee Hahn, William Reeves Hildebrandt Surgner, Sara Riley Dotterer, Haley Beatrice Rising, Terrell Ravenel Harrigan, Elizabeth Howard Spruill, Catherine Chapman Simpson and Ryan Elizabeth Hodgson, of Henrico.


Peter Van der Wolk, of Henrico, was named to the honors list for the spring 2018 semester at Pomfret School in Connecticut. To achieve this level of distinction, students must earn a minimum 3.330 grade point average for the semester.


Elsa Samantaray, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester.
