Reynolds Community College student Khodr Khalil has been named a 2017 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. He is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members nationally to earn the distinguished honor. The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are also encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in Society programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership potential. Nearly 1,000 applications were received.


Joyce E. Parkey, of Henrico, graduated in September from Boston University. Parkey received a master of science in Computer Information Systems.


Kristopher Pickens, of Glen Allen, was named to the provost’s list for term one of the 2017-18 academic year at Troy University in Alabama. The provost’s list honors full-time undergraduate students who have a grade point average of at least 3.65.


Gov. Terry McAuliffe has announced an additional appointment to his Administration: Mark A. Herzog, of Henrico, has been reappointed to the Board of Visitors to Mount Vernon. Herzog is vice president of corporate affairs at Kaleo, Inc.
