Washington and Lee University student Emma C. Callaghan is a recipient of a 2018 Johnson Opportunity Grant. She is one of 50 W&L students who will either work within the United States or travel to another country. The grants are designed to help students in their future careers and fields of study. Funded as part of the Johnson Program in Leadership and Integrity, the grants cover living, travel and other costs associated with the students’ proposed activities and vary in amount from $1,000 to $4,500. Callaghan is a graduate of Hermitage High School.


Jane Blackmer and Guy Davis, of Henrico, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Tufts University in Medford/Somerville, Mass. To be eligible for dean’s list honors, students must earn a 3.4 or greater grade point average for the semester.


The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at the University of Delaware: Jarrett Bender and Jacob Sitison, of Henrico; and Catherine Canning, of Glen Allen. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a 3.33 or greater grade point average for the semester.


The following area students graduated May 19 from Tulane University in New Orleans, La.: Arjun Karthikeyan, of Glen Allen; and Anne Christian, McChesney Goodall and Ryan Hechler, of Henrico.


Paul McMeniman, of Henrico, was named to the president’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Youngstown State University in Ohio. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. McMeniman is a pre-telecommunication major.


The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Hampden-Sydney College: Andrew Lloyd Blankenship, Mitchell McKee Mohr, Brian Davis Tarnai and Zachary Edward Toney, of Glen Allen; and Tyler Douglas Jones and Anthony Quick Vinson, of Henrico. To earn this distinction, students must earn a minimum 3.3 grade point average for the semester.


The following area students graduated with honors May 4 from James Madison University: Katherine Mills Blanton, Cameron Darrie Collard, Jessica Lynne Dymon, Alexander Nicholas Houff, Bailey Marie Katsarelis, Skyler Hayley Mang, Nicoletta Moss, Victoria Chonly Vann, Emma Scott Whitten, Carlton Alexander Byrd, Malik Jamal Holmes and Rachel Elizabeth Walko, of Glen Allen; and Emily Ryan Knox, Halie Elizabeth Dalton, Charles Robert Gunter, Gillian Sage Withers, Alexander William Whitehurst, Erin Maureen Christian, Katherine Ruth Ciszek, Kaitlin Anne Crews, Emily Anne Cyr, Kayla Christine Echard, Eric James Engleman, David Eliamkim Kadycz, Meredith Lee Moncure, Katie Elizabeth Oglesby, Kristen Michelle Woolard, Andre Wade Haboush and Lindsey Faith Lubin, of Henrico.


Christopher R. Zdvorak, of Henrico, graduated May 12 from Missouri University of Science and Technology. Zdvorak earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering.


Lauren Wells, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list with high honors for the spring 2018 semester at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. The high honors designation is given to students who earn a grade point average of 3.70-3.89 for the semester.


Delaney O’Donnell, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2018 semester at Missouri State University. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.50 grade point average for the semester.


The following area students graduated in May from Georgia Institute of Technology: Neha Saini, Arshiya Singh and Fan Yan, of Glen Allen; and Liang Xu, Catherine Burns and Kelvin Chen, of Henrico. All students earned degrees in computer science.


Nelson Woodley, of Henrico, recently graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Woodley received a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology with a minor in sociology.


Jacqueline Bland, of Henrico, recently graduated from George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. Bland earned a doctor of ministry.
